Garage doors have so many parts that we like to explain a bit more about the function and importance of each of them. One essential door component is the garage door sensors. You want to be sure that yours are in constant working order. Here is some helpful information about how to test garage door sensors:

What Are Garage Door Sensors?

In the early 1900’s, the federal government began to require garage doors to have a safety feature known as safety eye sensors. To define, this essential door part is what prevents accidents because as a door closes, it will detect an object that is in the way and roll back up rather than close on top of it. As you can imagine, this is helpful for pets, small children, and even adults that may not be paying attention.

Both sides of your garage door have a safety sensor that is located near the garage floor. The sensors will correspond with your opener. They have a laser that will become aware of anything that obstructs their line of sight. If this happens, the door will roll back up and not continue to close for safety reasons.

How to Test If The Photo Eyes Are Working

Testing your door’s equipment is important to do. First, push your wall mount button in order to begin closing your door. If everything goes smoothly, then this is aligned and you don’t have any issue with the sensors.

Next, put an object in the way of the beam to test whether or not it will roll back up. When your photo eye sensors are working correctly, then the door will begin to open back up rather than close.

In the event that your door does not work correctly, then you need to call a professional, like our team, to assist you. Photo eyes are important for your safety so don’t delay if you have an issue.

Troubleshooting Broken Sensors

If you are concerned that your sensors may be broken, then you can do a little troubleshooting before you call for assistance. The sensors are positioned about two inches from the floor.

Often, if they are not working right, the sensor lights will begin to blink. If you see this happening, then check to see if there is something in the way. If not and all appears clear, then you may need to clean the lens of your sensors. An alignment may be required for their greater functionality too.

They sent Doug Fussell out to my house on the day after Christmas! I had only called them three days before! Doug was a premier technician, very thorough and very efficient. I expected him to take two days, since he was replacing two doors and adding openers on each door. He only took the daylight hours of one day! I could not believe how fast he was! In addition, he thoroughly taught me how to use the remote openers. I highly recommend them to anyone!

We just bought a home and this company was so understanding as I had to change the appointment time a few times. Then the tech came out and was so kind and helpful. I could not have asked for a better experience and will suggest them to anyone who needs work done on their garage door!

My garage door broke on a Saturday night as I was getting ready to leave for a holiday party. Kelvin was here within 30 minutes. He reviewed everything with me that was happening with my door. He gave me the estimates of what was immediately needed to be done in order for my door to raise and then what I will need to have done very soon. I could see all the problems he pointed out to me and I decided to have everything done. He completed everything that night. I was very satisfied with Kelvin’s professionalism and the work he did. Thank you again.
