How to Program Your Garage Door Remote

Have you ever tried to open your garage door the remote wasn’t working? It could be that you need to replace the battery or re-program the remote. Replacing the battery isn’t that difficult, but re-programming the remote may be a bit more tricky. Here’s how you program your garage door remote if you aren’t able to open the door:

1. Look at the Manual to Replace The Batteries

Your remote should be able to tell you how to open the remote to change out the batteries. It’s best to start with replacing the batteries before you re-program it. Also, the remote may need to have both of these things done in order for it work again.

Test the remote once you have changed the batteries. If it is still not working, then you can use the following instructions to re-program it.

2. Find The Code Button On The Opener

reprogram your lost garage door remote

The garage door opener is the automatic part that is located in the middle of the ceiling. There is a button on the unit that is located above the antenna wire. You’ll likely need to use a ladder to reach this.

3. Press The Button

You’ll need to press the button on the unit one time when you are ready to re-program your remote. Make sure you have the remote in your hand when you do this so the transmitter and receiver are close to each other.

4. Press The Remote

After you’ve pushed the button on the receiver, you’ll need to push the button on the remote. Press it three times in a row so that it will re-program it to the opener. Once you have done this, try and open or close your door with the remote.

What if The Programming Doesn’t Take?

If you have changed the batteries and tried to re-program the remote, but it still doesn’t work, you may need to sync the two together. This can be done by taking the batteries out of the remote again. Leave them out for about a minute. While the batteries are out, unplug the opener for a minute.

Once a minute has passed, put the batteries back in the remote and plug in the opener. This can reset the two and open lines of communication again. If it still is not working, then try and re-program it again using the steps outlined above.

They sent Doug Fussell out to my house on the day after Christmas! I had only called them three days before! Doug was a premier technician, very thorough and very efficient. I expected him to take two days, since he was replacing two doors and adding openers on each door. He only took the daylight hours of one day! I could not believe how fast he was! In addition, he thoroughly taught me how to use the remote openers. I highly recommend them to anyone!

We just bought a home and this company was so understanding as I had to change the appointment time a few times. Then the tech came out and was so kind and helpful. I could not have asked for a better experience and will suggest them to anyone who needs work done on their garage door!

My garage door broke on a Saturday night as I was getting ready to leave for a holiday party. Kelvin was here within 30 minutes. He reviewed everything with me that was happening with my door. He gave me the estimates of what was immediately needed to be done in order for my door to raise and then what I will need to have done very soon. I could see all the problems he pointed out to me and I decided to have everything done. He completed everything that night. I was very satisfied with Kelvin’s professionalism and the work he did. Thank you again.
