How to Fix a Garage Door Opener

Chain drive with a torsion spring is the most common garage door opener. Even if you do not have this specific type, many of the problems you will experience are the same.

Are You Getting Power?

It may seem like a simple question, but it could be that your outlet is not working properly. Go ahead and plug in something to the outlet that is on the ceiling. If it doesn’t work, then you can guess that something is wrong with the plug.

There are also LED sensors that are on the side of the garage door opener that light up. If they are out, then you can guarantee that it is not getting power. The button switch on the wall can be indicator as well.

If this is your problem, then you will need to check your breaker box and see if you have tripped anything.

Is it In Lock Status?

On the button on the wall, there is a way to lock your overhead door to keep it from opening, even if you hit the button. Make sure that you have not hit the lock switch on the wall. If you hold the button down, it can lock the system and keep it from opening and closing the door.

If you have accidentally locked your door, then hold the button back down.

Do You Have A Problem With Your Sensors

garage door sensorThis is a common problem with garage doors. The sensors are near the bottom of your door and used to keep you safe. When something gets in the way of the sensors, it will keep the door from closing.

Sometimes, the sensor can get bent and keep the doors from closing. If the line is broken between the two sensors for any reason, it will not shut. Other times, your garbage cans, bikes or other things can get in the way.

Is the Keypad Battery Dead?

Over time the battery on your keypad can die. If that is the case, it can keep you from being able to open or close your door. Be sure to change the battery if it is not working. If you are unsure if it works properly or not, change it anyways.

They sent Doug Fussell out to my house on the day after Christmas! I had only called them three days before! Doug was a premier technician, very thorough and very efficient. I expected him to take two days, since he was replacing two doors and adding openers on each door. He only took the daylight hours of one day! I could not believe how fast he was! In addition, he thoroughly taught me how to use the remote openers. I highly recommend them to anyone!

We just bought a home and this company was so understanding as I had to change the appointment time a few times. Then the tech came out and was so kind and helpful. I could not have asked for a better experience and will suggest them to anyone who needs work done on their garage door!

My garage door broke on a Saturday night as I was getting ready to leave for a holiday party. Kelvin was here within 30 minutes. He reviewed everything with me that was happening with my door. He gave me the estimates of what was immediately needed to be done in order for my door to raise and then what I will need to have done very soon. I could see all the problems he pointed out to me and I decided to have everything done. He completed everything that night. I was very satisfied with Kelvin’s professionalism and the work he did. Thank you again.
