Neighborhood Garage Door Service of Houston, TX has seen a lot of creative use of garage space over the years. One of the more unique ideas that we’ve come across is to build a wine cellar in your garage. This is some out of the box thinking, but the results can be incredible.
Is Your Garage Right for a Wine Cellar?
The first question to ask yourself before attempting this kind of conversion is: is our garage right for a wine cellar? If you live in a fairly temperate area that doesn’t experience drastic fluctuations in temperature, you might be ok. However, if your garage can swing from 100 degrees to below freezing during the year, it may not be the best option for your home. If you decide to move forward, don’t forget to insulate your entire garage to keep your wine at a steady temperature as much as possible.
Building the Wine Cellar in Your Garage
Figure out exactly where in your garage you want to set up your storage racks. Remember to take into account the extra depth that will be created by your insulation layers. Map out the entire set up, including all of the various pieces of equipment, boxes, etc. that you keep in your garage.
You can choose to purchase or home-make your racks for your wine bottles, depending on the type of look you want. Be sure to secure them tightly to the wall so that they don’t risk tipping over. To save linear space along the wall, consider fold-out doors that can give you more depth.
You Don’t Have to Leave Out Your Car!
You may be thinking that wine bottle racks will take up so much space in your garage that your car won’t have any room. Depending on the size of your collection, you may be able to store all your bottles in racks that are bolted to the wall. This will keep them clear of the main parking area and allow you to continue using your garage for storing your vehicle.
