Backstory on Defiance
Defiance, Missouri was founded in 1799 by none other than Daniel Boone himself. This was his final homestead. About a century later, the Katy Railroad began expanding into the area. Though it was originally named “Parsons” for an early landowner, it eventually was named “Defiance” due to a rivalry with nearby Matson, MO.
Getting around town
Defiance is a little ways outside of St. Louis. Interstate 64 will take you from downtown across the Missouri River. There you can pick up Route 94 to get to the heart of Defiance. A good portion of the community is inside the bounds of the Katy Trail State Park.
Culture in Defiance
Our historical heritage in Defiance is rich indeed. The Daniel Boone Hays House is a local treasure. Another historic property is the Isaac McCormick House. Both of these places are on the National Register of Historic Places.
