Why Your Garage Should Be Your Coat Closet

If you have an attached garage, it is time you turn part of it into your coat closet. Even if you park in the garage, there should be enough room for you to install at least a coat rack. Here are some ideas to get you started on transforming your garage into your new entryway.

1. Hang Coat Racks or Hooks

If you have the space for it, you should hang hooks or a coat rack by the door. This will make a good place to hang things like:

  • Coats
  • Wet towels from the pool
  • Muddy clothes
  • Book bags

You can also hang storage sacks on the hooks to hold sports equipment or other things your family needs when they leave the house. Putting hooks by your door will keep you organized and cut down on the search for daily essentials.

2. Make Shoe Cubbies

You can put a shoe cubby underneath the hooks if you have space. A lot of homeowners do not want shoes in the house if they can avoid it. Having a central location by the door will keep you from dragging mud and dirt through the house.

There are a few ways you can create cubbies in your garage. For one, you can buy a storage bench that will house them all. You can use crates that are zip tied together to create the holes. Or, you can build one out of wood and set it up against the wall.

3. Install Cabinets

Cabinets can be installed on the wall above your hooks and cubbies to allow for extra storage. This can be used for long-term storage of:

  • Winter clothing
  • Suitcases
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Gardening equipment
  • Decorations

If you have tall cabinets, you should place a step ladder nearby. This way, you can easily get in and out of the storage area.

4. Get a Wardrobe

If you don’t want to install hooks on the walls, cubbies, or cabinets, the other option would be to get a wardrobe. You can buy a stand-alone cabinet made out of plastic, wood, or metal. These storage areas have two doors and can be used just like a closet.

Consider getting more than one of these wardrobes if you have space. Potentially, you could designate one for each person in your house. They can store their shoes, coats, bags, and other equipment in the cabinets.

These ideas should help you create an area where your family can drop their stuff off without making a mess in the house. It is the perfect place to keep things organized and help your family get out the door each day.

They sent Doug Fussell out to my house on the day after Christmas! I had only called them three days before! Doug was a premier technician, very thorough and very efficient. I expected him to take two days, since he was replacing two doors and adding openers on each door. He only took the daylight hours of one day! I could not believe how fast he was! In addition, he thoroughly taught me how to use the remote openers. I highly recommend them to anyone!

We just bought a home and this company was so understanding as I had to change the appointment time a few times. Then the tech came out and was so kind and helpful. I could not have asked for a better experience and will suggest them to anyone who needs work done on their garage door!

My garage door broke on a Saturday night as I was getting ready to leave for a holiday party. Kelvin was here within 30 minutes. He reviewed everything with me that was happening with my door. He gave me the estimates of what was immediately needed to be done in order for my door to raise and then what I will need to have done very soon. I could see all the problems he pointed out to me and I decided to have everything done. He completed everything that night. I was very satisfied with Kelvin’s professionalism and the work he did. Thank you again.
