Is your door loud when you open or close it? If you didn’t know, that is not normal. Sure, you are going to hear some amount of noise when you are working your assembly, but you shouldn’t have a squeaky garage door. If your door makes a lot of creaking, squeaking, or rumbling sounds, then there are some things you can do to solve the problem.
Apply Lubrication
When the mechanical parts of your assembly need lubrication, it can cause the door to be noisier. You should be able to reduce some of the noise.
Here’s how you can lubricate your garage door:
- Use a ladder tall enough to reach the tracks.
- Do not stand directly under the door, instead place the ladder on the outside of the tracks.
- Spray the tracks and chain or cable with WD-40 or a silicone based lubricant. It is important that you do not use oil or grease. These types of lubricants can cause build-up and keep the door from functioning.
*Do not spray wheels directly.
It is recommended that you spray your tracks two times a year. If you are not able to do this, we offer a Tune-N-Lube service that we can tune up your door. Call our garage door company to come out and handle that for you.
Install a Quieter Garage Door Opener
Your garage door opener may be a noisier part. There are openers on the market that are designed to be quieter when you use them. Our technicians are able to share with you the best opener for your needs.
We will come out and look at your assembly to determine what you currently have installed. Then, we can recommend the part that will give you the best operation. If you are ready to move forward, we will make the installation.
Tighten Up Loose Parts
There are many bolts, screws, and other mechanical parts that can loosen up over the course of time. Just from using your door will bounce these pieces and untighten them. Go over your door and tighten up all of the screws and bolts in the assembly.
Look At The Rollers
If the rollers wear out, it can cause scraping in the tracks. This will add to the noise you hear when your door is opening and closing. It is important to change the rollers when you notice wear anyways. Otherwise, the door can come off the tracks or other damage can occur.
Check The Opener Chain
When the garage door opener chain becomes loose, it will add to the noise you hear. If there is slack in the chain, you will need to tighten it up. Use your owner’s manual to guide you through the process. Or, call us and we will send a certified technician out to you.
