Reasons Your Garage Door Won’t Close All The Way

It’s frustrating when you try to close your garage door, but it won’t close all the way. Or maybe, it starts to close and then reverses. If you are struggling with these problems, the team here at Neighborhood Garage Door of Dallas/Fort Worth has ideas of what might be wrong.

The Safety Eye Sensors Need to Be Adjusted

At the bottom of your garage door, you may have two sensors on both sides of the door. This is a safety mechanism that keeps your door from closing on people, pets, or objects. When the line between the two sensors is broken, it will cause your door to automatically reverse.

Even if there isn’t anything in the way of the sensors, they could be causing the problem. If too much dirt gets on the eye, it can break the line. The same goes if they get knocked enough to keep them from matching up. Go ahead and wipe off the sensors and make sure they are in line with each other.

The Close Limit Switch Might Need to Be Adjusted

A limit switch is a device that stops an object when it comes in contact with an actuator. Once your door reaches that point, it will stop closing. This is the mechanism that tells your door to stop once it reaches the ground. Otherwise, it would keep trying to close.

If the limit switch is not set properly, it can cause the door to stop early. Generally speaking, there is a screw on your opener that can be adjusted to determine how far down it goes. Adjust the screw and see if it makes a difference.

The Door is Stuck in The Tracks

While this doesn’t happen as often, the rollers can cause the door to get stuck in the tracks. If the rollers are rusted and damaged, it could keep the equipment from going all the way down. In which case, you’ll probably have a difficult time getting the door to open as well.

The best thing to do is visually inspect all of the rollers to make sure they are working. Use an oil-based lubricant and spray on the tracks and rollers to see if it helps them glide easier.

You will also want to make sure that there are no bends in the tracks. When the tracks get out of alignment, it can cause the door to seize up.

They sent Doug Fussell out to my house on the day after Christmas! I had only called them three days before! Doug was a premier technician, very thorough and very efficient. I expected him to take two days, since he was replacing two doors and adding openers on each door. He only took the daylight hours of one day! I could not believe how fast he was! In addition, he thoroughly taught me how to use the remote openers. I highly recommend them to anyone!

We just bought a home and this company was so understanding as I had to change the appointment time a few times. Then the tech came out and was so kind and helpful. I could not have asked for a better experience and will suggest them to anyone who needs work done on their garage door!

My garage door broke on a Saturday night as I was getting ready to leave for a holiday party. Kelvin was here within 30 minutes. He reviewed everything with me that was happening with my door. He gave me the estimates of what was immediately needed to be done in order for my door to raise and then what I will need to have done very soon. I could see all the problems he pointed out to me and I decided to have everything done. He completed everything that night. I was very satisfied with Kelvin’s professionalism and the work he did. Thank you again.
