Neighborhood Garage Door Services of San Diego, California recommends regular care and maintenance to keep your equipment in good, working order. There are many tips and techniques that can be done to ensure your overhead door stays functional.
Neighborhood Garage Door Services of San Diego, California likes to share one tip to truly make a difference for your home’s garage door. We recommend that you lubricate your door a couple of times per year.
Five Tips to Lubricate Your Household’s Garage Door:
1. Clean The Garage Door
Dust your garage door to begin to prepare it for lubrication. Be sure the door is closed to start this very easy process. Take your time and position yourself inside the garage to begin the lubrication.
2. Oil the Springs
After you have removed the layer of dust, lubricate the coil springs with motor oil. Then, you’ll want to be sure to open and close the door several times to ensure the oil really covers the springs.
3. Lubricate the Rollers
Typically, we have found that a home’s garage has 10 rollers. These rollers have pivot points on the brackets. The next step is to lubricate the rollers.
Both sides of the garage have 5 rollers each and you need to amply lubricate them all. In fact, you’ll want to be sure you get the pivot points lubed up, as well.
Once all of your rollers are lubricated, then lubricate the door spring. Don’t miss this step! Often people forget to follow through on the garage door spring.
4. Lubrication Frequency
A good rule of thumb is to lubricate the garage door about every six months. They could stand it a bit more frequently but at least every three to six months is a good plan. Once all rollers and springs are well lubricated then raise the door so that the lubricant can penetrate all the rollers.
Neighborhood Garage Door Services of San Diego, California encouraged you to try this 30 minute process to ensure your door works more smoothly.
Further, you’ll know when your door needs lubrication if it begins to “sing a different tune.” A noisy garage door is both frustrating and noticeable. If you keep up with a regular schedule to lubricate your door about every few months then you’ll most likely have a proper sounding and working door.
A neglect of door lubrication is easy to figure out when you begin to notice a lot of noise as your door opens and closes. Also, you’ll find it’s an easy fix.
5. Apply Lubricant With a Brush
The main two items you’ll need is a brush to help with application and perhaps a stepladder to be able to reach the door more easily. Handling your garage door “in house” is a great way to save money and keep your door running in tip top shape.
