How to Release The Emergency Pull Cord and Reset It

  •   Comments Off on How to Release The Emergency Pull Cord and Reset It

Some of our customers do not know what the pull cord is that hangs from their garage door assembly. This cord is an emergency release so that you can operate the equipment if the power is out. Here at Neighborhood Garage Door Service of Fort Worth, TX, we want you to be able to get out of your garage if the opener is not working.

How to Release The Emergency Pull Cord on Your Garage Door

If you need to use your equipment manually, you will need to follow these instructions to release the cord from the trolley.

1. Close The Door

There isn’t a way to reach the pull cord when the equipment is open. You will need to close the door in order to release it from the track. Make sure that the door is closed all the way before you pull the cord loose.

2. Pull the Cord

After the door is closed, you can pull the cord to disconnect the door from the trolley. Once the equipment is no longer attached, it can be moved up and down freely.

3. Move the Door as You Need

Once the cord has been released, you can use it as you need. We do not recommend that you use it like this long term. It should be used in emergencies only. If your power is out, we recommend you open the door once to get your vehicles out and then close it back until the power comes back on.

How to Reconnect The Emergency Release

If you no longer need to use the equipment manually, you will need to reattach the cord. In order to do this, follow these steps:

1. Pull the Cord Towards The Door

You will need to get the cord in position to be reattached to the trolley. When you disconnect it, the string will be away from your door. When you are ready to connect it, you will pull it near the opening.

2. Raise The Equipment

If you have power and can work the opener, then simply hit the button. When the equipment opens, it will grab ahold of the string. If you do not have power, you can open the door manually, and it will pick up the string that way.

Warnings About The Emergency Release Cord

It is very important that you do not try and open your door if the spring is broken. We do not recommend using the emergency release cord in these instances. Since the spring creates tension on the equipment, it can cause fatal damage to you if you try to fix it.

If you think that a broken spring is the reason you are not able to work your assembly, call us right away.

They sent Doug Fussell out to my house on the day after Christmas! I had only called them three days before! Doug was a premier technician, very thorough and very efficient. I expected him to take two days, since he was replacing two doors and adding openers on each door. He only took the daylight hours of one day! I could not believe how fast he was! In addition, he thoroughly taught me how to use the remote openers. I highly recommend them to anyone!

We just bought a home and this company was so understanding as I had to change the appointment time a few times. Then the tech came out and was so kind and helpful. I could not have asked for a better experience and will suggest them to anyone who needs work done on their garage door!

My garage door broke on a Saturday night as I was getting ready to leave for a holiday party. Kelvin was here within 30 minutes. He reviewed everything with me that was happening with my door. He gave me the estimates of what was immediately needed to be done in order for my door to raise and then what I will need to have done very soon. I could see all the problems he pointed out to me and I decided to have everything done. He completed everything that night. I was very satisfied with Kelvin’s professionalism and the work he did. Thank you again.
