Neighborhood Garage Door Services of Phoenix, AZ has been in business for over 20 years. We have seen some really good garage door companies, and some really bad ones. It’s important to know how to spot the difference. Obviously you want to stay away from bad companies. But even more important is avoiding garage door scams.
There’s a few things you can use to spot a garage door scam artist. Take a look at our checklist, and make sure anyone you have service your door passes the test!
Don’t call us, we’ll call you
“Hello sir! We were in the neighborhood doing some repairs and wanted to extend a special offer to you today!” Sounds great, doesn’t it? Be wary of someone who knocks on your overhead door looking for work. If you weren’t experiencing difficulties with your door, why have someone look for some? Perhaps it’s time for a tune-n-lube or some other routine maintenance. If so, call a reputable company and schedule an appointment. But don’t let a random person in your home unbidden.
Look for the name
What is the technician driving? Is there a logo on their van? What about on their shirt, hat, or paperwork? Honest companies work hard to be found by potential customers. Anyone who doesn’t have their name and phone number prominently displayed isn’t very interested in being easily identified or contacted. You don’t want to work with a company that flies under the radar.
Suspicious pricing
You’ll have a natural reaction to unreasonably high prices. They will jump right out at you. Do some homework and make sure you have a decent idea of the price range for various services. If the prices seem too high, call them on it. Ask about sales, deals, or coupons. Also be careful about them pushing a “special” that they’re running if the original price is already too high.
What can be less obvious for us to catch is unreasonably LOW prices. Make sure your expectations match the market, however. If their quote is significantly lower than you expected, it might be a red flag. How are they able to offer such low prices? Are they using quality parts? Will the labor be shoddy? Make sure the price isn’t too good to be true.
Read the fine print
Be careful if the company or technician offers guarantees – lifetime warranties on parts or labor, satisfaction guarantees, etc. Guarantees are great! But make sure you read the fine print. The guarantee may come with a fee attached that makes it a little less than free like you might expect. There may be certain stipulations that would void the warranty. Don’t let a warranty or guarantee be a deal breaker, but know what you’re signing up for!
