How to Install Vents On A Garage Door

Are you dealing with condensation in your garage? If so, Neighborhood Garage Door Services of San Antonio has put a guide of how you can install vents on your garage door in order to reduce the condensation.

One of the ways to eliminate this problem is to have good airflow in your garage. In order to achieve that, you can install vents on your garage door.

Mark The Position of the Vents

Mark with your pencil or pen where you will plan to place the vents. It is best to place the vents at the top of the overhead door. You can draw around the outline of the vent as a guide to go by. Make sure that you drill inside of the outline about an inch in away from the line. This way, when it is time to screw the vent in place, it should cover the holes.

Wear Safety Glasses When Cutting Into a Garage Door

It is important that you wear safety glasses when you are cutting into your overhead garage door. Regardless of whether you have a wooden or metal door, you will want to have on eye protection. Since you will need to reach up to drill the holes, the dust from the holes can get into your eyes more easily.

Wearing a mask might be a good idea, also. If you have a home that is older than 1989, you are at risk for coming in contact with asbestos. It is best to limit your exposure to this substance as much as possible. By wearing a mask, you will not breathe in the dust and particles from drilling.

Drill a Series of Holes

All you will need to do is drill holes into the door, instead of cutting it out completely. The goal is to increase the airflow in your garage. Also, it is much easier to drill holes versus cutting a hole into the door. You have less chances of damaging it through this process.

Drill the holes close together. It is best to make a grid pattern with the way you drill the holes. An easy way to do this is to drill columns going across the vent shape or down the vent shape.

Place Vent Over The Holes

Once you are done drilling the holes, you will need to install the vent over top of them. Make sure that you align it in such a way that you are covering everything you drilled. Also, make sure you are not placing the screw holes over top of the holes you drilled into the door.

This process shouldn’t take you more than an hour, but will help your garage to get the airflow that it needs. If you are seeing condensation inside, this can solve your problem.

If you are still having an issue with airflow, you may need to install an exhaust fan in your garage in order to pull more air out of the room. Another solution can be to run a dehumidifier in your garage. This machine will pull the water out of your air, reducing condensation.

They sent Doug Fussell out to my house on the day after Christmas! I had only called them three days before! Doug was a premier technician, very thorough and very efficient. I expected him to take two days, since he was replacing two doors and adding openers on each door. He only took the daylight hours of one day! I could not believe how fast he was! In addition, he thoroughly taught me how to use the remote openers. I highly recommend them to anyone!

We just bought a home and this company was so understanding as I had to change the appointment time a few times. Then the tech came out and was so kind and helpful. I could not have asked for a better experience and will suggest them to anyone who needs work done on their garage door!

My garage door broke on a Saturday night as I was getting ready to leave for a holiday party. Kelvin was here within 30 minutes. He reviewed everything with me that was happening with my door. He gave me the estimates of what was immediately needed to be done in order for my door to raise and then what I will need to have done very soon. I could see all the problems he pointed out to me and I decided to have everything done. He completed everything that night. I was very satisfied with Kelvin’s professionalism and the work he did. Thank you again.
