John Hilliard platted the land in 1853, and the railway station and Main Street was the town center until the mid-20th century, but the word “Station” was dropped from the name in 1854. It became incorporated as a village in 1869 and the railway ceased operations in 1962. However, the historical Weaver Park is home to the original but restored train station.

Hilliard, Ohio is an incorporated city in Franklin County. It is part of the Norwich Township as well. John Hilliard owned a few acres of land in western Franklin County which he bought in 1852. The area developed around the railway, and was originally called Hilliard Station. Its position on the railway allowed it to continually grow, reaching official city status in 1960.

The city of Hilliard straddle the western-most leg of the Interstate 270 bypass. The citizens of the city have rapid access to most of Columbus on this route. This has given it great opportunities for growth over the years since the bypass was built.
