Lucas Valley was named after John Lucas (no relation to George Lucas), a 19th century rancher, who is the nephew of Timothy Murphy, the gentleman who sold a portion of the land surrounding present-day Marinwood, to a man named James Miller. Since that time, a hall named Miller Hall was erected, and Miller donated land to build Dixie School. Miller died in 1890 and the land was sold to another family, who tore the hall down. The building that was once Dixie School still stands, but the school itself has been since relocated. The streets in lower Lucas Valley all end in -berry.
In the 1950’s and 60’s, the area of Marinwood was developed into a suburb in the Bay Area, with the addition of Lucas Valley Community Center and Pool.
